Tyrone Power came crashing into Newport in 1943 with Crash Dive, a film about a submarine lieutenant and his commander falling in love with the same girl. Several scenes were shot miles off the coast, including make-believe rescues and submarine sequences.

Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, and Frank Sinatra starred in High Society, a 1956 film about a successful jazz musician divorcing a wealthy Newport socialite, but who remains in love with her. The film was not only set in Newport, but it was also partially shot there.

The Great Gatsby
The 1974 adaptation of The Great Gatsby starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow showcases the grand mansions of Newport; the Marble House at 596 Bellevue was used for a ballroom scene, while the Rosecliff Mansion at 548 Bellevue Avenue was used for Gatsby’s extravagant outdoor parties. The brief flashback to Gatsby and Daisy’s meeting was shot at Linden Place Mansion on 500 Hope Street in Bristol.
