The Weekend Rundown: August 4-6

August 4–6: Sure, the hipsters all pounced on Newport Folk Fest, but it’s not the only legendary music festival to call the city home. The Newport Jazz Festival is bringing in major acts like The Roots, Trombone Shorty, the Branford Marsalis Quartet, Andra Day and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

August 4-6: If the phrase “died and gone to seafood heaven” sounds like something you’d like to get down with, going to the 33rd Annual Charlestown Seafood Festival is an absolute must. This weekend, Ninigret Park will be taken over by stands filled with chowder and clam cakes, steamed mussels, fish and chips, lobster rolls and raw bars. Hungry yet?

August 5: The Little Compton Antiques Festival is bigger than ever this year. The fair brings in 25 antiques vendors, and this year is also hosting the Little Compton Classic Auto Show. A preview event the night before includes a sunset supper and a ticket to the next day’s festivities.

August 5: At Westerly’s River Glow, floating bonfires illuminate the Pawcatuck River, while belly dancers, fire jugglers and a steel drum band keep things lively on land. The family friendly event also includes hayrides and a rock-climbing wall.

August 5: The third annual Providence Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival is happening in India Point Park, bringing together local favorite food trucks with as-of-yet-untasted-in-these-parts trucks from Boston and beyond, plus dozens of craft breweries.

August 5-6: Have fun while you’re being green. Block Island’s Conserfest has a mission to educate people about environmental and conservation causes while they have a great time at a two-day music festival.

August 6: Have fun, fun, fun when you take your T-Bird – or any classic car worth showing off – to the Ed Lang Memorial Car Show at Lang’s Bowlarama in Cranston. The fundraiser for the RI Community Food Bank will be giving away trophies for the grooviest cars, and there will be bowling, food and fun.

August 6: Following last year’s smash success, the Warren Folk’s Festival is back for a second year of fun, food and music. Hosted by The Collaborative, an arts organization in Warren, the outdoor Folk’s Festival will run all day, with a musical lineup including Bristol and Warren’s own Six Star General and Jodie Treolar Sampson, and other local musicians like Ian Fitzgerald & Something Else and The Low Cards. There will be art from Collaborative members, and an arts and crafts table for kids – plus food by Eli’s Kitchen and Balasco’s Pizzeria, and a beer garden sponsored by Chomp Kitchen & Drinks. All that, plus the chance to meet folks you don’t know yet? Summer doesn’t get any better.
