What makes it a Rhody Gem?

Owner Kristen Szklarz worked in the corporate world until 2024, when she decided her days needed to center around a business that was fun, creative, and family-oriented. Partnering with longtime friend Leanne McAndless, a former nurse, they opened Boba on Bowen’s, focusing on the Taiwanese tea trend that includes chewy tapioca pearls – or bubbles – called bobas. “We are always trying to create something unique and fun,” Szklarz says. “This season we are featuring favorites like our frozen mango boba, strawberry peach lemonade, and traditional brown sugar milk tea.” The duo also loves creating little keepsakes and memories for customers visiting Newport, including handmade bracelets and accessories. “Boba on Bowen is truly a passion project for us. We wanted to bring something fresh, colorful, and exciting to Newport while creating an experience people remember during the summer season,” she says. “At the end of the day, Boba on Bowen’s is about creating good vibes, fun memories, and bringing people together over something unique during the best months of the year in Newport.”
