A volunteer-run thrift shop.
Look for the large white church along Main Road/Route 77. Park in the lower south entrance parking lot and find the store entrance in the back.
In the spring of 2016, Gale Gabriel and Martha MacNaught were working the annual Amicable Congregational Church rummage sale when Gabriel brought up the idea of a thrift shop. “We always had so many nice things left over from the one-day sale and it seemed a shame to just throw them away. So the thrift shop was imagined,” recalls MacNaught, who, along with Gabriel and Virginia Messier, still volunteers. The Amicable Church Thrift Shop (ACTS) first opened in April of that year in the former dining room, and in 10 years it has grown to encompass the entire lower level of the church as well as a seasonal outside tent and a shed for free items. “It’s amazing,” says Tiffany Peay, a devotee and owner of Tiffany Peay Jewelry and Healing Arts in nearby Four Corners. Shoppers will find organized displays of clothing for men, women, and children, plus household goods, decorative accents, and unique items. “The hunt for vintage items and just the right lamp or artwork makes shopping a fun and rewarding experience,” says MacNaught, who adds that the parking lot is large, the staff is always friendly and helpful, and all sales support the church and its missions. “Come on in, you will be pleasantly surprised!” Regular hours are Thursdays and Saturdays from 10am-2pm.
Cash and checks only.
